Frequently Asked Questions
Is CheapCrawler free to download and use?
Yes. CheapCrawler Desktop is completely free for audits up to 1,000 URLs per website. There are no trial expirations, no credit card requirements, and no account registrations needed.
Does CheapCrawler require Java or external runtime dependencies?
No. CheapCrawler is compiled natively for Windows, macOS, and Linux with an embedded high-performance SQLite engine. It operates comfortably under 300MB of RAM, eliminating the 8GB+ Java Virtual Machine (JVM) memory overhead required by legacy tools.
Where is my crawl data and audit history stored?
100% locally on your computer. All crawled URLs, response headers, metadata issues, and reports are saved to your local SQLite database files. CheapCrawler never uploads your crawl data to external servers or cloud services.
How do the local AI metadata fixes work?
You can connect CheapCrawler to local Ollama models (such as Llama 3 or Mistral) for completely offline, zero-cost AI generation. Alternatively, you can supply your own API key (BYOK) for OpenAI, Gemini, or Claude in Settings.
Which operating systems and architectures are supported?
We provide tested standalone binaries for Windows 10 & 11 (64-bit), macOS Monterey 12+ (native Apple Silicon M1/M2/M3/M4 & Intel x86_64), and modern Linux distributions (Universal AppImage and Debian/Ubuntu .deb).
How do I unlock unlimited URL crawling?
You can purchase a license on our Buy License page ($160 for 1 license, $150/lic for 2–5, and $130/lic for 6+). Once purchased, enter your license key inside the desktop app Settings to instantly remove the 1,000 URL limit without reinstalling.
